Support our 2019 Fundraising Campaign!

Our GoFundMe campaign is Live! Now is the time to support major outreach efforts by the East Bay Chapter to create a more diverse brewing industry and help us build the newest chapter of QMB in Bend, Oregon!

Queers Makin’ Beers is an important part of a modern brewing industry. We provide expert guidance to commercial businesses who want to create a more diverse and socially progressive culture in the workplace. Each chapter has the skills and tools for teaching members to brew at no cost. We partner with local clubs, breweries, and social justice advocates to bring a well-rounded, fun, and professional experience to the members and local businesses we serve. QMB Bend will provide access to the brewing industry for queer folks in the Northwest! Funding will provide Bend and the East Bay with money for equipment, programing and outreach. Please donate and share on social media! We are so grateful to all our supporters, thank you!

Queers Makin' Beers is a homebrew club currently located in Oakland, California, Bend, Oregon and Stuart, Florida. Our mission is to address the need for greater diversity of culture and perspective within the brewing industry by promoting queer presence and excellence. QMB cultivates experiential, educational spaces free of racism, misogyny, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, and judgement. Making good beer is an empowering and radical act; we are radical people.  QMB is for the genderbenders, the dykes, the fags, the weirdos, and the normal but not heteronormative. We host two open brews each month where our experienced brewers are excited to share knowledge and get everyone involved in the art of homebrew. Members can access communal equipment and gain expertise, free of charge. In addition to brewing, we serve beer for charity, tour breweries, throw parties, and collaborate on side projects. Our events are an opportunity for queer folks to meet and share their passion for beer and anything else. It's simple and it's fun. Make friends and make beers. Members may host brews, attend brews, attend social events, become an organizer, create QMB artwork, or do something new. We gather to enjoy the people QMB brings together, good beer is not hard to find.

Meet the team running QMB!

Kate and Rebecca, two queers from Florida, first met in an Oakland bar while waiting to join a new Meetup group. Over some tasty craftbrews they realized that they shared a common vision.; both just wanted to make beer with other queer people and saw the need for queer representation in the brewing industry. No one else showed up and the group they initially wanted to join never came to be. Kate and Rebecca were not discouraged, they made a beer together and became fast friends. After one successful brew the two didn't hesitate to take their pairing to the next level, the grouping, and QMB was created.

The original Queers Makin’ Beers Meetup started on July 2, 2015 in Oakland, California and has grown to be one of the largest homebrew groups in the United States, serving more than 1000 members. Our Florida chapter opened in 2017, funded by generous donations received during our first fundraising campaign. The newest chapter in Bend, Oregon started in 2019 when Kate moved north. Our success is evident in the quality of our beer. QMB has been featured on VICELAND, by KQED, the SF Chronicle, The United States Bartender's GuildSouth Florida Gay News, and Meetup. We have donated beer and servers to more than 10 charities and won "People's Choice" for best beers at the Northern California Homebrewers Festival. We have made collaboration brews with a local brewery for PRIDE and won local brew contests. Queers are pouring forth to join the homebrew revolution, and it is radical.
